I'm trying to put together a Hawkeye outfit as well, can you give me any tips or helpful advice? Cheers!
Yeah man totally! The vest I actually made the pattern for myself (it took a bit of work since I’ve never made a sewing pattern myself before, and not having a dressform didnt help either haha) so for that I basically taped pieces of tracing paper to myself, drew sharpie lines where I should cut, taped more pieces on for fixing, and repeated that process about 5 times until it looked close enough. (you can probably see process pics of this on my blog if you havent already) There was a cheap fabric store where I live in SF so I didn’t have a lot of problems getting black, maroon, and slightly grey, stronger fabric for the shoulder/back parts of the vest. For the pants, I did the same “tape paper to myself and draw lines, test that, try again” method for the sides of the pants. I didn’t have time to actually make the pants, so I just hand sewed the pieces I made onto the side while adding the belts and stuff.
The bow was actually the fun part for me and took the least amount of time out of everything. If you have any, try to find a few old coathangers, the ones made out of cardboard tubes and metal wire. I used 3 of those and bent them into the general shape of the bow. after that I just cut out strips of cardstock (I suggest using thin cardboard however) to build the actual fleshed out shape of the bow. I also just cut a few pieces of the cardboard tube from the hangers for the shape of the handle. once you have everything taped on, cover it all in craft foam sheets and (for the handle) electrical tape. for the S.H.I.E.L.D badge thing hes got on his chest, I made a crappy little thing out of pieces of craftfoam and glued those to a circle of i think iron on patches used for mending pants. i just liked using that because the back looked kinda like plastic. careful to not use hot glue to attach it to the vest, it got shiny when I put the hot glue on because it thought it was being ironed haha.
my quiver is a cardboard art tube (like you get at the ups store or kinkos) wrapped in fabric that i made in 2 seconds, if I had the time however, I would have used the same method I used to make the bow- cardboard the shape, then cover in craft foam.
I’m sorry if this was wayy too long, if you have any specific questions, dont be afraid to ask!
